2017 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year Announced

Teacher of the year Sydney Chaffee, a teacher at the Codman Academy Charter Public School in Dorchester was among the nineteen educators honored at a State House ceremony last week.

Other teachers recognized included Teacher of the Year finalist Rachel Stavely Hale, who teaches math at Northampton High School, Teacher of the Year Semi-finalist Alicia Lopez, an English language learners teacher at Amherst Regional Middle School, and recipient Catherine Dollard, a science teacher at Northampton High School who was a finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics & Science.

These and other candidates from across the Commonwealth were honored during the ceremony, which included dignitaries Mitchell Chester, State Rep. Alice Peisch, co-chair of the joint committee on education, and Omar Grey, a member of the Codman Academy Charter School Class of 2016.
