On Friday, Anne Curran, salutatorian and class president of Hampshire Regional High School, asked graduates to please rise during the high school’s graduation.
Through a virtual event, viewers can see five students, Curran, April Warner, Aine McDonald, Aiden Braastad and Emma Civello dressed in caps and gowns all stand — 6 feet apart and wearing masks.
“By turning our tassels, we turn to a new page in our lives,” Curran said. “We cease to be high school seniors and instead become citizens of the world.”
The students, joined by individual videos of about 120 of their classmates, then turn their tassels “to officially signify our successful completion of high school.”
It might not be the graduation the Hampshire Regional High School Class of 2020 was expecting but due to the coronavirus pandemic many typical graduation ceremonies were canceled, postponed or turned into virtual events.
Instead of giving graduation speeches in front of an audience, the five students ranging from class treasurer to valedictorian, got to share their memories and wisdom with classmates, family and friends through a video by the school.
“Here we are together but not together on one of the most important days of our lives thus far,” said Warner, the Hampshire Regional High School Class of 2020′s vice president.
