BUCKLAND — Shelburne resident Angela Schatz was recently awarded the 2020 Excellence in Teaching Award within the Mohawk Trail Regional School District for her work as a special education teacher.

“Ms. Schatz is a dedicated educator, committed to providing a safe, fun and engaging community for her students,” said Mohawk Trail Regional School Principal Marisa Mendonsa. “She creates unique learning experiences for her students and collaborates with both middle school teams in providing the best possible support for each student. She is a valued member of our community, and we are so honored to have her working at (Mohawk Trail Regional School).”

Schatz has worked in the Mohawk Supported Classroom since 2015. Prior to that, she worked at Brattleboro Area Middle School, Hawlemont Regional School, JFK Middle School, and schools in South Carolina and the Bahamas. According to a press release from the school district, she has 13 years of experience working in the classroom as a special education and math teacher, inclusion specialist and as a summer program coordinator.

“I get to help our students be OK with school, and themselves; to help them exist and be around others, helping them build their self-esteem,” Schatz said.
