HADLEY — Hopkins Academy held a personal finance fair for students and parents Monday night as part of a program funded by a state grant.

Earlier this year, the Baker-Polito administration and state Treasurer Deb Goldberg’s Office announced the recipients of a Financial Education Innovation grant. Hopkins Academy was one of 43 Massachusetts schools to receive the funding. This initiative gives schools the opportunity to educate students on the importance of managing personal finances in a fun and interactive way.

The Hopkins Academy educational fair consisted of interactive informational booths run by students, where peers were able to ask questions about several personal finance topics, including investing in stocks and bonds, filing for taxes, 401Ks, purchasing property, buying a car, setting up a savings account, and using credit cards versus debit cards.

Not only were Hopkins students encouraged to take part in the fair, but they are also required to take a personal finance class to graduate.
